Visit to Joey's Mom (Rita) in Tulsa

November 20, 2012

We spent a few days in Salt Lake City before traveling out by flight to visit Rita for the Thanksgiving Holiday.  Joey's Brother Tom and his wife Patsy live in Tulsa - and his Brother Bob was able to be here for several days which overlapped with our visit.  Here are a few pictures from this week before Thanksgiving.

November 10, 2012 - Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City

November 9th - We arrived in Salt Lake City today.  The drive from St. George, Utah was quite the adventure.  When we left St. George in the morning the temperature was about 70 degrees and within an hour it had dropped to 33 degrees.  We found ourselves in the middle of an incredibly bad snowstorm.

Hoover Dam

November 8th - We decided to drive over the Hoover Dam on our way from Flagstaff to Salt Lake City

The Hoover Dam was constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression and was dedicated on September 30, 1935, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Its construction was the result of a massive effort involving thousands of workers, and cost over one hundred lives. The dam was controversially named after President Herbert Hoover.

The bridge is located within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area approximately 30 miles (48 km) southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada, and carries U.S. Route 93 over the Colorado River. Opened in 2010, it was the key component of the Hoover Dam Bypass project, which rerouted US 93 from its previous routing along the top of Hoover Dam and removed several hairpin turns and blind curves from the route.

Flagstaff & the Grand Canyon, Arizona

A couple days in Flagstaff proved to be a delight with a day at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and a number of good places to eat.

A Few Days in Albuquerque

We made it to Albuquerque, New Mexico on Friday, November 2nd.  We ended up spending a few days there as the car was in the shop for over a day.  When we brought it in, we thought it only needed brakes but much to our surprise, just as we had the work done, the turn signals stopped working and the windshield wipers stayed on a consistent speed all the time.  In the end, the Sears Auto Center took good care of us.

There are great sunsets in Albuquerque...

Farmington, New York

On Wednesday the 24th, we left Queens and drove northwest to a KOA in Farmington, New York.  The area was beautiful – the epitome of fall colors.

We’re the little one way back there in the middle.  The Buggy might be small but she’s cute!
