The Burren

1 September 2013

Burren:  The " Great Rock"
The rolling hills of "The Burren" are composed of limestone pavements with criss-crossing cracks.  The limestones formed as sediments in a tropical sea approximately 350 million years ago. The sea cliffs are popular with rock climbers and cavers. A small portion has been designated as Burren National Park, is one of only six national parks in Ireland, and is the smallest in size.

Cows, sheep, goats navigate the lush green valleys in the Burren.

In this region where 70% of Ireland's wild flowers grow, the Burren Perfumery was founded 40 years ago. This structure is where organic creams, balms, and soaps are made. Everything is made on site, by hand, in small batches. Amazing!

The Perfumery herb and flower gardens. It was difficult to leave this magical place.

A bit of art on the gate.
